Note: This is part 1 of a 2 part series about my experiences with Quetzaltrekkers Nicaragua. Part 1 will outline my volcano boarding experience on volcano Cerro Negro. It’s 6AM and I’m up and at it. My bag is packed and I’m ready to head out on a short hike to top of Cerro Negro only to sled back down, followed by a 2-day trekking adventure to the top of Volcano El Hoyo. Eating Like a Local at the Food Stalls in Granada, Nicaragua

Welcome to yet another edition of Pause The Moment and Stop Having a Boring Life. This video is a look inside of the local food stalls hidden inside of the street markets here in Granada. For $1.50 we scored a plate of food at this food stall. It’s been the best tasting chicken we’ve had to date and quite possibly the cheapest full fledged meal that we’ve eaten thus far.

How to get there:

Walk to Calle Altrevesada and ask someone where the Pali (supermarket) is. If you say Pali, people will know exactly what you’re talking about. When you arrive at Pali on your right hand side (it’s set back off of the street), look left and you’ll see a street market. Enter the street market and immediately turn right into the dark hole of a food stall. Once inside, chow down with the locals!

How to Exchange Money on the Streets of Nicaragua

When’s the last time you heard that it was better to exchange money with some random dude on the street versus going to a bank? Only in Nicaragua my friends! It’s here that the people tell you to only exchange money with the guys slapping giant stacks of money from hand to hand in the streets. Screw the banks, work with the black market!

Tip: Make sure the guy has an ID badge around his neck for the safest exchange.

Eating Coco on the Streets of Granada, Nicaragua

Rob and I were cruising through the market here in Granada yesterday afternoon and I stumbled upon this woman selling a flourescent pink, flaky, dry, protein-bar looking dessert. I stopped to take a closer look and considering I couldn’t understand what the woman was trying to tell me so I decided to just buy one for $2 Cordoba. 8 US cents later I had this bright pink little treat in my hand. We decided to film me giving this a shot in hopes that I might spit it out in disgust but it turns out that it was quite the treat. As a matter of fact I went to the market today to search for this coconut treat today with no luck.
